Ice-kite Building Step Successes

1. April 27, 2004:  Froze water on the center of a dish to make a circular disk. Melted the disk just enough so release occurred. Threw the disk as a Frisbee to feel the aerodynamics that are familiar. The disk flew just fine and landed on the street only to crack to hundreds of pieces. Warm day also. This effort was done just to get started going out to the field and flying ice one way or another!

2. Used on April 27, 2005, a two-ply notebook paper protector to make a leaf of ice. The result was exciting. NEXT THOUGHTS: Two-ply plastic flats can be set into male-female forms for various angle and tubular forms to obtain thin-walled forms quickly and easily.

3. On April 28, 2005:  Made an 8" tall part that had a dihedral-like curve facing the wind. I tossed it up toward the wind. The part went up a bit and then crashed into pieces. The part was made roughly by using 2-ply plastic wrapped about a bottle with a paper label; unwanted non-release occurred from a wetness that was not part of the plan. But the part still approximated what was wanted. Small success was the result.
